Peace NOT War!

24 11 2009

In the harsh times of the 21st century, it is often most hard to think of any good times that we have experienced. The war that has been going on due to the planes crashing into our World Trade Center, has taken over everyone’s mind and soul. The humans that are walking around today are not really the same as they were before the attacks. Our country is so much more terrified, and up-tight due to idiotic people who tried to shut us down. As stupid as it may sound to “shut a country down” that is exactly what the terrorists’ plan was to do, and in a way, they succeeded. We are all a bunch of moping, non-working citizens who think that the war is going to solve everything. Newsflash: It’s not going to. In order to bring this world back up to being a better and happier place, it is up to us, the people of the United States to bring peace back into the world.

I believe that the central purpose of the image is to pull people more towards peace in our world than fighting for war. Everybody relates anger, injustice, cruelty, crime and hatred to war. It is all our country has come to know of for the past decade almost. Not many people can sit back and say they’ve had a peaceful day, because as soon as you sit down to relax, you turn on the television and the news pops up with different stories about people being shot, and mass murders happening all around. Our world is not a peaceful world at all, and it needs to be. Yes, there will always be a few problems, because not everything can be perfect, but we need to stop the war so we can at least start having peace in one area of our lives.

In the image I have chosen, the artist tries to imagine the difference between peace and war. There is a tree in the dead center of the image, with “peace” on one side, and “war” on the other. The peace side of the image has the sun shining and the leaves blowing, while the war side shows lightening light up the dark sky. The artist’s purpose is to draw people toward peace and happiness instead of war and anger. In my opinion, the artist did exactly that, because I would rather be standing in the grass of the image on the peace side, because it looks safe, compared to being struck by lightening on the war side.

I believe that this image succeeds in portraying the differences between peace and war and makes people believe that the world “can” be a happy place without war, but until the day that this war ends, we will have chaos and drama amongst us all. The conclusions I draw from this image are that there are a lot of people who want the war to end, not just the anti-war groups. There are thousands more images than just this one that portray the hate our country has against the war now. We are losing our brothers, fathers, cousins and nephews; but not only that we are losing our dignity. If we haven’t gotten anything accomplished in the past 8 years, what could we possibly accomplish now? This image strongly portrays that peace can conquer us all, if we just let it. The most memorable object of this image is the lightening striking the tree on the war side of the image. When I think of lightening I think of loudness and anger, and it scares me. Who wants to live in a world full of anger and being frightened all the time? How about we make peace with everyone and this earth will be a better place!
